We have been serving Bakersfield, Oildale and Kern County with quality Truck, Jeep and SUV parts since April of 1982. Aside from the history of Pickup Salvage Co being the areas largest truck dismantler is the history of our location at South Union Avenue and Planz road.
Once known as "The Crystal Inn" was built by Restituto family as a full blown night club which featured a large glass fish tank in the bar and sported young ladies swimming at various times. The huge dance floor made of terrazzo had many bird designs in it. A few were preserved and installed near our front door while building our warehouse sidewalk.
This area from California Avenue to our current location was known as the “Union Avenue Strip" and was actually 99 hwy. Starting with "The Bakersfield Inn" which was a famous valley stop over between LA and San Francisco and had the "Bakersfield" sign going across the highway.
That sign was later purchased by Buck Owens and installed on his "Crystal Palace” near the new 99 freeway where it proudly stands today.
Going South on Union Avenue there was "The El Adobe” near where Maison Jaussaud's building is now, our corner is also on the right side, just another mile or so. Many clubs sprang up in the 50's and was the beginning of the "Bakersfield Sound". Piano, steel guitar and Gene Moles Telecaster being the prime ingredient. "The Cousin Herb TV show" Herb Henson..Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Billy Mize, Gene Autrey, Dallas Frazier, Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, The Blackboard Cafe, The Lucky Spot, Tam O'Shanter, On and on. I was born in 1940 and was lucky to live the dream of the 50's. Even today, the great country western talent keeps coming to Bakersfield. We love it.
